REVIEW >> Vizio Tablet ready to rock and roll

Vizio, the company that brought you extremely affordable LCD TVs that do not skimp on quality and performance has now announced that they will be dipping their toes into the competitive tablet market in the form of the aptly named Vizio Tablet, which incidentally will also be the first in the Vizio Internet Apps Plus (“V.I.A. Plus”) ecosystem. This next generation of Vizio Internet Apps will usher about a unified, sophisticated and intuitive user experience over a wide range of consumer electronics devices, where among them include Vizio HDTVs, Blu-ray players, tablets, and smartphones amongst others.

Let us look at the Vizio VTAB1008 tablet in greater detail – it will sport an 8″ display which is by far and large different from most of the other tablets on the market, as those tend to be in the 7″ range or 10″ size, depending on the manufacturer. 8″ is certainly a bold move to take since hardly any other manufacturers go in that direction – at least you get to stand out from the rest of the crowd with this.

Sporting a 1GHz processor underneath the hood, you will find the 8″ high-resolution 1024 x 768 resolution capacitive touch screen display large enough for everyday use without it being cumbersome. With built-in GPS and both 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, you ought to be able to keep pace with plenty of gadgets in different situations without missing a beat, and the extended battery is said to be able to last up to 10 hours (usage dependent, of course) – which ain’t too shabby when you think about it, comparing it to other tablets in the market.

2GB of internal memory might not sound like much, but good thing you can expand that thanks to a microSD memory card slot – up to 32GB, in fact. HD video playback is also not a problem courtesy of its micro HDMI output, while the front-facing camera makes it the perfect device for video chats no matter where you are. No idea on pricing just yet, but we do hope to get further word on it in due time.
