Other World Computing (OWC), creator of the Mercury Extreme 6G, has just announced a new addition to its lineup of prosumer SSDs (solid state drives) - the Mercury Electra 6G SSD. Designed and built in the USA, these SATA Revision 3.0 6Gb/s SSDs feature Tier 1/Grade A NAND and deliver 556MB/s read and 523MB/s write sustained data rates. That's over 7x faster performance than standard factory hard drives found in most computers. But as usual: high performance means premium prices, and the Mercury Electra 6G SSDs isn't what you'd look for if you were building a computer on a budget.
