Orange ‘Do Some Good’ App now available on Nokia

Orange announces that its innovative mobile volunteering app, ‘Do Some Good’ is now available to Nokia users. The ‘Do Some Good’ app can be downloaded for free from Nokia’s Ovi app store, allowing more people than ever before to use the power of mobile technology to give time to good causes.

The app allows convenient, bite-size volunteering through a mobile phone, enabling users to do a good deed in less than five minutes at a time and place that suits their lifestyle. Since the ‘Do Some Good’ app launched on the 31st March, 10,000 mobile volunteers have given more than 1,000 hours of their time to good causes.

The app includes a range of different charity ‘actions’ that consumers can complete anytime this summer, whether that’s during a staycation or while watching a band at a festival – and Orange remains committed to adding two new actions every month.

Nokia is already an advocate of the Do Some Good causes and directly support one of the charity partners, Photofoundation. Photofoundation has an action on the app which encourages people to donate pictures they've taken on their phone for charities to use for free - and since Do Some Good launched, Nokia has donated a range of photos submitted in a national photo competition they ran earlier this year.

“We’re delighted to be involved with Do Some Good and Photofoundation, the Nokia N8’s12MP camera is perfect for capturing and sharing in professional quality. We’re looking forward to seeing how Nokia owners use their smartphones for good” says John Nichols, Head of Marketing, Nokia UK.

“The Do Some Good app gives people the opportunity to make a positive impact in less than five minutes through their mobiles, and we’re excited to welcome Nokia users to the experience,” says Helen Davies, Head of Responsibility, Everything Everywhere.

In addition, Orange launched a new action on the app this week; a short survey designed to find out people’s thoughts on mobile volunteering for the Institute for Volunteering Research. People can also use the app to upload a photo of a rundown green space for guerrilla gardeners to consider renovating, or complete a five question survey to help the Samaritans gain a better understanding of the nation’s wellbeing.

To accompany the app, Orange launched a website www.orange.co.uk/dosomegood which features other exciting charity apps, links to real life volunteering opportunities and the collective impact of our mobile volunteers.
