NVIDIA Tablet shows running Quad - core Tegra Chip

NVIDIA showed a computer Tablet prototype running four-core of its Tegra processor and said products based on the new chip is put on sale from September.

Speaking to journalists before exhibition Computex Taipei Monday, CEO Jen - Hsun Huang Nvidia has also announced that Nvidia will be shipped to 10 million of its existing late June Tegra 2 dual-core processors.

Best known for its graphics chips, Nvidia has emerged as a force in the market of the arm-based processors, used in smartphones and tablets, where he is competing with more established as Qualcomm and Texas Instruments mobile chip vendors.

Dual-core Tegra 2 is used in the tab of the Samsung Galaxy, LG Optimus and the Acer transformer, which has a keyboard snap - on type people too to use only a touch screen.

Huang showed the chip quad-core, code-named Kal - El, a prototype tablet built by Nvidia to demonstrate its capabilities running. Tablets with Kal - El will be put on sale in September, followed by smartphones later this year, said Huang.

He did not say what vendors would make products, but it seems likely that they will be derived from existing Nvidia partners, which include Motorola, Dell, Sony and Asustek.

Huang said Kal - El will provide better graphics for gamers and non-gamers and run their existing applications with greater efficiency of energy, which should mean longer battery life.

"El Kal will do everything that can make the Tegra 2, but at lower power,"according to Huang.""

NVIDIA showed the chip runs a MadFinger game in which a bullet informed the Interior rolls around an arena dark. Shade by the bullet were rendered in real-time and more than 30 images per second, said Huang.

With all four cores in use, the tablet can run the game for four to six hours for a single charge, according to Huang.

Kal - El is a code name, and it is unclear if the final product will be called the Tegra 3. This could be tricky for Nvidia from a marketing perspective as he wants to insist on the fact that the chip has four cores.

Michael Rayfield, General Manager of the mobile business unit of Nvidia, replied if Kal - El tablets will be more expensive than the Tegra 2 of today tablets, that they will be offered a "huge" price range.

Most of tablets based the Tegra today run Google's Android operating, but Nvidia system is among the vendors with Microsoft to bring the next version of Windows of processors based on the arm.

Kal - El will be the first four-core chip tablet on the market, according to Huang. Its competitors are not remain immobile, however. Qualcomm and Texas Instruments have planned this week of press conferences where they are expected to discuss new products.

Kal - El was announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February. In the same show, Qualcomm announced a Snapdragon upcoming quad-core chip that she said will consume 65 percent less energy than the hearts of processor based on the arm. He did not say yet when this chip is put up for sale.
