"Truly the new king of drums": Reason 5's Kong Drum Designer in MusicTech Magazine

"Despite debuting only in Reason 5, Kong has already secured a reputation as one of the most powerful drum production tools around."

The July 2011 edition of MusicTech Magazine (their 100th issue) contains an excellent guide to Reason 5's Kong Drum Designer. The workshop covers Kong's considerable sound generation and programming capability:

"Much-loved retro classics such as the Roland TR-909 used a mixture of synthesis and sample playback to create sounds, and the Props have taken this concept and run with it. Kong, which arrived in Reason 5, not only offers sample-and synthesis-based sound generation, but also includes physical modelling and loop editing within its feature set.

"Kong's diverse sound-creation tools are certainly one of its main assets, but it innovates in so many other areas. From its hige velocity-sensitive pads to the flexible effects system, Kong is just begging to be programmed. Let's take a look under the hood and break Kong into its separate parts."
