REVIEW: ASUS announced ultra-thin Netbook Eee PC X101 at Computex 2011

Along with an updated series of ultra-thin UX series, ASUS has announced yet another ultra-mobile device Netbook Eee PC X101. New gadget is impressive not only for its dimensions (262 x 180 x 17.6 mm) and weight (total somewhere around 900 grams) but also for its price $ 200.

However, such a low price is achieved, firstly, by installing a free MeeGo OS; secondly through the use of inexpensive components. For example, display size of 10.1 inches, is 1024 x 600 pixels, 8 GB of internal SSD memory, only two USB 2.0 ports and it has only one 3.5 mm audio jack. Web-camera resolution is only - 0.3 megapixels and Eee PC X101 only supports microSD cards. Netbook is powered by Intel Atom (CPU - not yet officially submitted to Intel Atom N435, clocked at 1.33 GHz), the maximum amount of RAM is 2 GB. The equipment of the device also includes wireless adaptor Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth, as well as three-cell battery.

Note that along with the version running MeeGo Eee PC X101 will also be available with Windows. This modification will be more expensive and thicker. However, the increase in thickness did not happen just like that, the reason is that instead of SSD in this modification there will be HDD of 250 or 320 GB.

ASUS Eee PC X101 will on sale this summer. The device will be available in three colors: white, red and gold.
