Dell to import tablets 10 inches in China, first, to the United States pending

Dell will first launch its Tablet Streak 10 Pro in China, to other markets such as the United States and Europe on hold to give developers more time to create the necessary applications.

It will launch the Android tablet in China "later this summer," according to a blog written by Amit Midha, President of the firm of the China and South Asia. In the second half of 2011, Dell will also assess what other areas he wants to sell the product.

The PC manufacturer has decided to sell the Tablet Streak 10 Pro in China first because of the large market of the country, where many people go online for the first time, Midha wrote. "In addition, we have a presence significantly - and growing - retail in China, with more than 10,000 locations where customers can purchase Dell products throughout the region," he said.

But China will also be a testing ground for the product, as Dell is preparing to launch tablets on the American and European markets at a later date. Apps are an important part of the services offered on the shelves. But in the case of China, access to these applications could be more difficult since the Google's Android market is not available in the country.

"We will use what we learn in China to shape mobile products, that we offer in other places on the road," said Midha. Also, in an effort to provide a complete experience to its customers, Dell wants to give more time to developers in other markets create "robust apps" for professionals, he added.

This is not the first time that Dell has launched a product in the development of markets first. In 2009, it announced it would sell its first smartphone in the Brazil and China.

China could be a better market for Dell to sell its tablets, whereas apple already dominates so other markets with its iPad device, said Sun Peilin, an analyst with Beijing Analysys International based research firm. While Apple has a share of 78 percent of the tablet of the China market, there are still plenty of room for future rivals and to establish their own presence, Sun said.

Sales compressed in China, during its growth, are still only a small part of the market in the world. Sales compressed in the country are expected to reach 4.5 million units this year, an increase of 600,000, according to Analysys estimates.

Sales compressed in the world are expected to hit 69.7 million units, about four times the 16.7 million sold in 2010, according to research firm Gartner.

Market China tablet, however, is already being eyed by other competitors. Earlier this year, Lenovo and Motorola launch their own Android tablets in China. In a webcast of gains the month last Lenovo said that it wants to seize a 20 per cent of the tablet of the China market.

China is also an important market for tablets cheap unbranded. Some of these tablets sell for 75 $ to 300 $ US.

"There are a lot of media premises vendors tablet in China, usually using low-end Android white boxes," said IDC Associate Vice President Bryan Ma. "It is possible that Dell think it can be positioned as a better product with a better brand against those."

In the first quarter, 41 per cent of the $850.00 tablets sold in China ran Android, according to IDC. Android ran on 25% of the 2.3 million tablets sold in United States during the same period.
