The Aunt Mabel Effect (a lesson from Digital Leap) | NetWitsThinkTank.com: "I just returned from Toronto, where Blackbaud sponsored the Digital Leap conference for the second year in a row. It would be tough to relay all the great new statistics, pointers, and tidbits I picked up at the conference, so I’ve narrowed it down to my favorite takeaway, nabbed from the session led by Ted Hart on Online Fundraising Success and Social Media."

Spontaneous text giving can transform fundraising | Voluntary Sector Network | Guardian Professional

Spontaneous text giving can transform fundraising | Voluntary Sector Network | Guardian Professional: "Donating by text has huge potential – the market is estimated to be worth 96m annually by 2014. It comes as no surprise when you consider that 89% of adults in the UK own a mobile phone and 300 million text messages are sent each day. But it is the spontaneous, mobile nature of donating by text that is the key to unlocking this new technology that allows people to donate whenever and wherever they are."

The study, released in early March, found that online is the fastest growing fundraising channel for nonprofits. In 2010, Convio’s clients raised more than $1.3 billion online, up 40 percent from 2009. The median growth rate in online giving was 20 percent, compared to a median growth rate of 14 percent in 2009. Still, while the majority saw growth, a significant minority saw decreases — some as high as 21 percent."

Online Peer-to-Peer Event Fundraising is NOT About Technology : Page 1 of 2 : FundRaising Success: "Spring fundraising event season is upon us once again. Many of you have been setting up event registrations and getting peer-to-peer fundraising pages set up for your supporters. A few may even have used some mobile apps in place for your event fundraising. With all this, it’s important to remember that the people and how you engage with them — not the technology — determine the success of your event."

Nonprofits that have two or more full-time employees managing online communities have the highest level of satisfaction from social networks, according to a new survey. The NonProfit Times - The Leading Business Publication For Nonprofit Management: "e-Commerce: Donation Processing & CRM

By Mira Allen and Laura Quinn

Online donations should be an important piece of almost any organizations’ fundraising strategy. While online methods won’t replace direct mail anytime soon, they can reach a different audience and often are more cost efficient to run than more traditional campaigns.

But just as a new ability to accept credit card payments over the phone won’t suddenly make the phone start ringing off the hook with eager donors, adding a donation button to your Web site isn’t likely to bring in much money on its own. The key is integration of these online methods into your communication mix."

Are You Counting or Are You Measuring? : Page 1 of 2 : FundRaising Success: "Continuing our coverage of the Association of Fundraising Professionals 47th International Conference held in Baltimore last month, Steve MacLaughlin , director of Internet solutions at Blackbaud, shares his presentation, 'Everything You Need to Know About Measuring Online Results but Were Afraid to Ask.'

Our everyday lives are full of numbers and metrics. The hours and minutes on the alarm clock. The temperature of the water that hits our face. The expiration date on the milk. The distance to our offices. The posted speed limit on the road. The number of e-mails waiting in the inbox. We live in a sea of things that can be counted and metrics that can be measured."

Experimenting with new approaches to online fundraising. : FundRaising Success

Experimenting with new approaches to online fundraising. : FundRaising Success: "Never before have the barriers to online fundraising been lower. Over the past couple of years, the challenges associated with the cost and technical expertise required to deploy online fundraising programs have just about disappeared. Why My Mom Is My Fundraising Guru | NTEN: The Nonprofit Technology Network

Why My Mom Is My Fundraising Guru | NTEN: The Nonprofit Technology Network: "he challenge in online fundraising today is that it's more than just email: it's Facebook, and Twitter, and e-mail, and widgets, and your website, and your blog, and your supporters blogs, and... well, you get the idea.

During the course of the 2009 fundraising campaign, the task ahead of me often felt like Medusa: if I stared directly into any of those serpentine eyes, I was frozen. Thinking too hard about any one tactic meant I was lost for hours. But we managed to meet the challenge (by the skin of our teeth)."

Does Your Nonprofit Need a Social Media Guide? - Online Fundraising, Advocacy, and Social Media - frogloop

Does Your Nonprofit Need a Social Media Guide? - Online Fundraising, Advocacy, and Social Media - frogloop: "Guess what one of the biggest challenges nonprofits face today when adding a blog to their website or diving into social media? Giving up control.

Does this sound familiar?

* Should blog comments be moderated?
* Should we even allow public comments on our blog?
* How do we handle negative comments? Just delete them?
* How do we deal with trolls?
* What if the opposition takes our tweets and twists our words?
* What happens if some of our Facebook fans disagree with what we have to say in one of our status updates?"

Both of these things are great goals, but if you're doing just that then you're missing a huge opportunity."
