Worldwide, the producers of electronic goods recorded 100.9 million smartphones shipped in thelast three months in 2010. This figure jumped 87 percent from a year earlier.
In contrast, PC shipments than expected to weaken, just crawl up three percent from a year earlier, to 92.1 million.
Both these trends are not necessarily related. Smartphone and PC serve different purposes and consumers in general need both.
PC is still essential for certain purposes such as writing papers, editing photos and creating other content. But PC sales more or less participate displaced by the presence of tablet PCs like the Apple iPad.
Meanwhile, the business smartphone to benefit from falling prices. It is something that is not unusual for consumers to find reputable branded device with a price range of USD 100. A price that is reasonable and acceptable to consumers.
Smartphone sales also pushed consumer interest in Google's Android operating system. Dozens of brands like HTC, Samsung, Motorola and many more, also supports the availability of Android-based smartphone.
