Sony is back with a new range of notebooks from the VAIO family, what with the affordably-priced line of VAIO E Series notebooks. The E Series will comprise of 14-inch and 15.5-inch notebooks, where you will be able to choose from a quartet of colors – midnight blue, glacier white, charcoal black and blush pink, and for those who want something more, there is the 17.3-inch model that will sport charcoal black and glacier white color choices.

There are geometric patterns that appear on the lids in addition to matching palm rests, and you can be rest assured that all the colors are fingerprint-resistant so that the models will look brand new all the time – unless you take a marker and start drawing stuff all over it, of course.

With a WEB button that delivers a one-touch Internet connection without having the need for a full boot into Windows, you can also take advantage of the VAIO button that will launch Media Gallery software, Sony’s intelligent playback software. As for the ASSIST button, pressing that will open up VAIO Care, a built-in troubleshooting and maintenance program.

You won’t run out of entertainment options in the new E Series, thanks to a deep level of integration with Intel Wireless Display technology on select models, a Remote Keyboard (select models as well) that will connects the VAIO PC to a BRAVIA TV and a Blu-ray Disc player. Other hardware specifications include an integrated microphone, a webcam that has face-tracking technology, and a range of second generation Intel Core i3 or i5 processors to choose from.

Shrugs from Intel to the potential Mess PC tablets, notebook Sales

Intelintel would happily chips for Apple and other rivals, its Chief Financial Officer, said Thursday, but suggested that the company does not believe the Apple iPad and similar tablets would any tooth in the sales of portable and, consequently, company Intel core processor.

Instead of this, the tablets are an "incremental device" with limited applications that appeal to consumers, not mass market or business high-end, said Stacy Smith.

The chip manufacturer sees sales of laptops leaping before and with them, commands for processors to full power.

According to Reuters, Smith said Intel would gladly use its manufacturing could combine its exclusive architecture with the technology to other companies and might even consider to core-Intel for some customers.

"If Apple or Sony's came to us and said" I want to make a product that involves your core IA (Intel architecture) and a part of my IP around it ", I wouldn't blink." It would be great business for us, "says.

"Then you get into the soil of medium of"I do not want it's core IA, I want to make it my own heart custom-designed", and... it would be a discussion and much more in-depth analysis," Smith said.

He spoke to journalists at an Investor Conference in London with Christian Morales Chief of operations of Intel in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

REVIEW >> HP to Transfer Notebook Production to Japan

While almost every company in the world scramble to have their products manufactured in China, HP takes on a different route. The Japanese business newspaper The Nikkei has reported that the California-based company is planning to bring part of its notebook production from China to Japan. HP plans to eventually make all computers for sale in Japan in factories in Akishima.

In preparation for such a giant leap in manufacturing, HP plans on hiring 50% more workers in Akishima, bringing the number of employees to 450. This is despite Japan’s labor costs are about four times higher than in China. The move is apparently brought by HP’s plan to increase efficiency, be closer to the Japanese market, pride its “made-in-Japan” tagline, and reduce delivery times to Japanese business customers.

HP is currently ranked 5th in PC sales in Japan for 2010, with a 10-percent market share.

Samsung Netbook New Solar Powered NC215S Survived Being able to 14.5 Hours!

Samsung announced a netbook with a built-in solar panel and 14.5-hour battery life. The NC215S also offers hybrid fast start technology, the ability to charge portable devices even when it’s turned off, a choice of Atom processors, and a 250GB or 320GB hard disk drive.

The solar-powered NC215S just might fit the bill, especially for those who work — or play – outdoors, far from a power outlet.

While some observers consider the netbook form factor passe, Samsung is leveraging the clamshell design to provide something new: a built-in solar panel. According to the company, the NC215S‘ solar cells provide one hour of work for each two hours of recharging in the sun.

The netbook isn’t totally dependent on solar power, because it also comes with a six-cell battery that, Samsung claims, can provide up to 14.5 hours of operation. It’s also said the unit’s three USB 2.0 ports can recharge devices such as phones or MP3 players even when the netbook is sleeping or turned off.

Samsung adds that sun-worshippers will be able to read the NC215S‘ display outdoors while they and the laptop catch some rays. Perhaps because the solar panel already drives up cost, Samsung has not chosen to reduce power consumption by adopting a solid state disk drive. The NC215S instead comes with a 2.5-inch, 5400rpm hard disk drive, offered in 250GB and 320GB capacities.

However, the company does tout an “innovative hybrid sleep mode” it calls Samsung Fast Start. The other features on the 2.86-pound NC215S are more typical, including a choice of Atom processors (the dual-core N570 or single-core N455, 1GB of RAM (presumably expandable to 2GB), and a 10.1-inch screen with 1024 x 600 resolution. The NC215S is equipped with Windows 7 Starter Edition, according to the company.

First introduced for the African market, Samsung’s NC215S will be hitting Russia in early August for 13,999 rubles ($479). The netbook sports a lid almost entirely monopolized by a solar panel, which contributes to an overall estimated battery life of 14.5 hours.

The NC215S packs a 1.6GHz N570 Intel Atom dual-core processor, 250GB of storage, and 1GB of RAM into a 2.9 pound frame. Just a little over a month ago, our own J. Angelo Racoma gave you a look at the NC215S from Samsung, a solar-powered netbook that was hitting African markets first.

It’s set to pack a 1.6 GHz dual-core Intel Atom N570, a full gig of RAM, a relatively small 250 gig of storage (which is still pretty substantial on an absolute level, but some pack four times that or more), Samsung’s Fast Start system, and the Sleep And Charge system in which you can connect your various USB devices to the laptop and use its solar panel to not only recharge the battery but also divert some of that charge into your batteries.

Samsung has announced it will be launching the NC215S solar-powered netbook this August for customers in Russia. Using solar panels to keep laptops running is nothing new, but the company claims a world’s first here due to the panel being integrated into the lid of the netbook’s 10.1in, 1024 x 600-pixel display.

Rather than fueling the netbook, the solar panel is designed to sustain battery life, notching up a possible 14.5 hours on the go. The NC215S itself is on a par with the current crop of Samsung netbooks, running Windows 7 Starter and sporting an Intel Atom N570 (1.66 GHz) dual-core processor, 1GB of Ram and a 250GB or 320GB drive.

The image of snow covered boots tends to accompany thoughts of the Russian climate, but it’s one helluva big place and this launch suggests Samsung is minded to look on the bright side.

AMD plans to expand APU Fusion family with C-60 (Ontario). The main features of the new model will be the same as an existing model C-50: two cores running at 1.0 GHz, GPU that supports DirectX 11 and high-definition video decoder UVD3.

Its main difference from C-50 is that C-60 supports Turbo Core technology support - a technology that allows to increase the frequency of both cores up to 1.33 GHz. Graphics core can also be overclocked from 276 to 400 MHz. However at the moment, the technology may be applicable to only one of the components, not to exceed the TDP 9 Watts.

It is expected that the C-60 APU will be used in netbooks, which are scheduled for release this autumn.

As we previously ensured you, Lenovo sticks to the fashion of releasing new and exciting machines based on Intel’s Sandy Bridge platform this spring. In March we covered a splash of mobile workstations and Edges coming out, some of the Lenovo newcomers were missed by our coverage, but anyway, we now have something else to look at.

The new X Series ThinkPads include a classic notebook and its tablet incarnation. By the tablet I mean of course (or rather Lenovo does) a tilting in all directions multitouch display a price tag with extra 50% of laptop’s price added to it. As always, Lenovo offers wide customization possibilities, namely Core i-processes of all families, tons of RAM, SSDs and USB 3.0.

The display resolution however is locked at 1 366 × 786 and there are no discrete graphics available, but then the display is IPS and the latest X220s start well under a thousand dollars, so I guess everything is fair here. Specifications and customization options are after the jump.

Fujitsu is working in cooperation with major Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo and are going to offer consumers the rising sun smartphone called LOOX F-07C, equipped with two operating systems: Windows 7, and Symbian. Now more information about the hardware of this exciting new gadget has been disclosed.

According to the new info, Fujitsu LOOX F-07C was built on the Intel platform and equipped with an Atom Z600, running at a frequency of 1.2 GHz, and the GPU Intel GMA 600. It will feature 1 GB RAM and 32 GB - Flash memory on board. The second one can be extended with microSD memory cards up to 32 GB. Device has two cameras: 5 megapixel rear cam and 1.3 MP front one. Like the majority of mobile devices in its class, Fujitsu LOOX F-07C supports a number of wireless technologies: GSM, FOMA/3G, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.0. It also features 4" touchscreen with resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. As to other details it has: GPS, microUSB port, standard headphone jack, light and proximity sensors.

Overall dimensions of the device are: 125 x 61 x 19.8 mm, weight - 213 grams. Unfortunately, the battery life of the product is quite short. In standby mode it is able to "stay afloat" for 350 hours, but working in Windows 7 will kill the battery as the battery lifetime is limited to a maximum of two hours. The new gadget will hit Japanese stores this summer, but the price it is not available yet.

There is no limit for perfection; however there is a limit to thickness. ASUS have come really close there with their ultrathin laptop UX21. Not only they have built a very powerful laptop they also made it really light and thin. It is only 17mm in its thickest part and is also lightweight with 2.4lb / 1.1 kg.

There can be different configurations to feature up to Core i7 processor. Processing on this beast is super fast, it will resume from sleep in two seconds. This all is thanks to ASUS software, SATA III SSD. UX21 can also hibernate for up to one week. It also supports USB 3.0 connectivity for ultra fast data transfer.

As for its appearance it has aluminum body which looks pretty cool. Its keypad is made of glass and all the keys a made of metal.

ASUS W5 Notebook Computer Review

The Asus W5 is not longer available, but I recommend the asus ul20a as a replacement for best even for Asus W5.

This laptop was quite expensive at the time and is now well above the price of most signatures from 12.1 inches. The standard set of functionality has not changed much, but are now available at prices lower.

REVIEW: ASUS UX21 Ultra-Thin Notebook

Notebooks are certainly getting noticed for becoming thinner and thinner. It seems that the newer notebooks in the market are trying to get attention by becoming a more convenient device to bring along by having a slimmer profile and doing away with much of their bulkiness. One of the recent ultra thin notebooks to come out is the ASUS UX21 notebook.

The ASUS UX21 Ultra-Thin Notebook is one of the devices that ASUS has announced at Computex 2011 held in Taiwan just recently. Its main feature of attraction is its incredibly thin profile at 0.66mm at its thickest point. It also weighs a light 2.4 lbs.

The ASUS UX21 comes out with an all-aluminum body and will sport metal keys and a glass trackpad. Inside, it will feature an Intel Core i7 processor, a 2 second start-up from sleep mode, SATA III SSD technology and USB 3.0 support.
