Apple plans faster iPhone for September: report

Apple Inc plans to launch a new iPhone with a faster chip for data processing and a more advanced camera in September, Bloomberg said in a report late Tuesday.

The new iPhone will include the A5 processor along with an 8-megapixel camera, the report said, quoting two people familiar with the plans.

Apple is also testing a new version of the iPad that has a higher resolution screen, the report said, adding a cheaper version of the iPhone aimed at developing countries is also in the works.

Apple shares fell to $323.85 in trading before the bell on Wednesday. They closed at $325.30 Tuesday on Nasdaq.

Apple rumored to be working on iOS-powered HDTVs for late 2011

A new rumor claims Apple is readying an iOS-powered connected TV, possibly for release as early as this fall.

A former Apple executive, speaking anonymously, said the company plans to "blow Netflix and all those other guys away" by bundling Apple TV + iTunes inside a physical display, DailyTech reports. Apple is reportedly teaming up with a major supplier to provide the rebranded television sets, the source noted.

When questioned why an OEM would cut into its sales by providing Apple with units, the source said, "If you have to be competing with somebody, you want to be competing with yourself."

The tipster indicated a planned fall launch, while noting that the product could get pushed to next year because of Apple's "high standards." A fall launch could coincide with the launch of the next-generation iPhone, as well as iOS 5 and iCloud.

"You'll go into an Apple retail store and be able to walk out with a TV. It's perfect," the source said. According to the unverified report, the iOS-driven televisions would support third-party apps.

Rumors of an Apple Smart TV have existed for years, with Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster repeatedly forecasting the product. Munster has suggested that an Internet-connected TV from Apple may have a starting price in the range of $2,000.

In March, Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty said Asian suppliers had told her Apple had built a Smart TV prototype. According to Huberty, an Apple-branded TV could add as much as $4 billion per 1 percent share of the TV market Apple is able to capture over the next two years.

Then, in April, Brian White with Ticonderoga Securities said "data points" from a China electronics trade show suggested Apple could launch an HDTV set possibly by the end of the year. "Our research suggests this Smart TV would go well beyond the miniature $99 second-generation Apple TV that the company released last fall and provide a full-blown TV product for consumers," White said.

Though Apple CEO Steve Jobs said last year that the Apple TV set top box product is "a hobby" for the company, sales of the $99 second-generation model have improved over the first-generation. After the company sold 250,000 units in the first six weeks of availability, Jobs said Apple was "thrilled" with the figures.

Apple went on to sell 1 million Apple TVs within three months of the device's launch. However, analysts have estimated that a million units per quarter would amount to a "fairly immaterial" $400 million in annual revenue.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of Concord Securities said in April that Apple TV sales had reached 2 million, reportedly selling 820,000 units in the March quarter.

Why a fake tablet, you ask? Perhaps because kids pick up their habits from their parents. Seeing how the adults continue to play and work with their tabs and smartphones, you cannot blame the children if they prefer to play Angry Birds than read a book. But as a “good” parent, you know you aren’t supposed to let kids play with tablets. Then again, who are we to define good parenting?

Anyway, the anaPad is being sold on Etsy for $30. Due to high number of orders, customers are asked to wait for a week before it is shipped.

Apple is not giving Samsung any break as Steve Jobs Co. accuses the latter of more patent infringements and adding more Samsung devices that Apple claims as copycats. As of today, the list now includes 12 different Samsung devices that allegedly infringe upon Apple’s five design patents.

Apple’s updated suit now includes the Droid Charge, Exhibit 4G, Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Prevail, Galaxy S, Gravity Smart, Infuse 4G, Nexus S 4G, Replenish, Sidekick 4G, Galaxy Tab 10.1, and the Galaxy S II.

“The suit may be a bit of a stretch,” says CrunchGear. “There are similarities, yes, but nothing to the point where I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between an iPhone 4 and an Infuse 4G.”

Some claims of design infringements are out of this world, even, like the inclusion of the Sidekick, Replenish, and Gravity Smart. All of them have physical QWERTY keyboards, something obviously absent on any Apple device and we doubt it would appear on any future iDevice.

Apart from the two new design patents into the suit, Apple has also filed a complaint against Samsung for infringing up to eight utility patents.

Samsung has yet to submit their devices for Apple’s inspection, while we are also waiting for the judge’s decision on whether Apple would have to do the same and hand over the iPad 3 and iPhone 5 to Samsung.

When it comes to tablets, we’re not really ready for software keyboards, are we? Or maybe the developers of software keyboards aren’t yet ready for us.

This week, we received the Asus Eee Pad Transformer tablet. Like with most new tablets that enter this building, it was immediately pounced on by a pack of ravenous wolves group of my coworkers.

What made the Transformer’s debut more exciting than most was its primary claim to fame and origin of its namesake: the keyboard/dock accessory.

If not for the keyboard/dock, most would have mistaken it for one of the two other new Honeycomb tablets we acquired in the last week. iPad sales numbers not withstanding, there are still quite a few who simply prefer the tactile to the abstract. It’s familiar and thereby comforting, I think.

In the case of the Transformer, it’s also utilitarian. The $150 accessory includes two USB ports, an SD card reader, and its own battery. Once connected, it’s like your very own Honeycomb Netbook.
The Wi-Fi-only tablet itself costs a low $400 (for the 16GB version; $500 for the 32GB), making it the cheapest Honeycomb tablet yet.

You can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs, though, and in this case, the omelet is the capable, powerful tablet. The eggs come in the form of build quality, bugs, and a couple of features.

Still, with such a low price, I hope the Transformer will inspire more-competitive pricing on Honeycomb tablets going forward.

It is about racing, destroying and Winning but what differentiates this game from others is the different kind of challenges it comes after every race. Sometimes its Gold Rush while sometimes its Marathon, So if you end up playing this game for 2-3 hours in a row, I wont be surprised.

Apart from these there are different types of challenges keep coming which might or might not involve weapons which will make the fun into pure racing mania.

Controls :

There are two controls, one that lets you steer the car and other which fires weapons. They are very smoothly done when it comes to response but if you plan longer lap track, thumb might get pain but I guess that will happen with any other game played long.

Garage :

• You can choose between 8 cars starting from the basic one. Rest of cars get unlocked as you keep performing well in the races.
• Every Car has Three basic upgrades Speed, Handling and Armor which you do with money you win in a race.
• Apart from that you also get to unlock weapons in the same way of which levels can be upgraded to make it even more powerful.
• Choose Colour of the cars by tapping.
• 3D View of the cars
• You have two weapons attached to every car of which one is very basic one but handy when it comes to killing of a dying car.

Score Card :

The scores are given based on couple of factors which I have not seen in many other games. You get points on :

• If you beat the boss in the race. Boss is the top player which you race against.
• Cash Pickups
• Lap Records Gap i.e. Its performance based.
• Kill Count
• Participation
• Position

Like I sad the money is used for upgrades and if all is done, it is used to increase your Fame. So if you look at your dashboard where you select tracks to race, There are two bars. On left it is Progress and Other is Fame. I am now a Celebrity over there. Though I am not sure how much it helps you while playing but this should be a nice scorecard to show off !!

iPad 2 Jailbreak is Soon

JailbreakMe 3.0 is so close to be released to jailbreak iPad 2 faster than previous jailbreaks, the developer Comex has confirmed via a tweet. Comex explains how he has made some changes that will greatly decrease the time it will take to jailbreak iPad 2.

If you don't know, the stashing approach jailbreaks have been using for years-- Cydia's "Reorganizing Filesystem"-- involves moving some large directories from the small / partition into the large /var partition, then creating symlinks from the original to the new location. This both ensures that any additional stuff put in those directories by packages will end up in the /var partition, and frees up space on the / partition for files created outside of those directories. However, the process has some issues, like taking forever to do when you jailbreak (I am a bit fanatical about speed), pretty much requiring the jailbreak to reboot the system to ensure there aren't any running applications pointing to the old files (ditto about speed, I want a jailbreak to not even require a respring, as in star, but since star used stashing, some obscure things could cause issues before a reboot), and seriously confusing the sandbox code in the kernel (because each application has a sandbox with a list of allowed filenames, but after the symlink has moved files, the filenames no longer match), requiring that code to be patched (it needs to be patched anyway these days because tweaks have to run under the sandboxes of the applications they're hooking, but depend on accessing various directories; but it still feels good to get rid of a kludge).
With unionfs (which was saurik's idea originally), new files are created in the /var partition, and merged with files in the corresponding directories in the / partition, so no files need to be moved, no descriptors are invalidated, and I think the sandbox code won't notice what happened. It also opens the door for upgrading the base operating system without destroying the jailbreak files (although maybe iOS 5 delta updates will already allow this? I haven't looked at them yet).
I've wanted to do this since literally a year ago (that's the date of the nullfs checkin, since I was dumb and thought I wanted that instead of unionfs), but I never got around to making it work properly.
So, I just hope that I can get rid of the crashes my meddling with unionfs's code have introduced, and fix it for the iPad 2 (my dumped copies of iPad 2 kernels do not include symbols; I wrote a small BinDiff-like tool to copy over symbols from a kernel for another device, but it's not perfect) and that there aren't any performance issues.

Previously, the Chronic Dev Team has given an update on their iPad 2 jailbreak, which is due to be released in the coming weeks.

Some bad news unfortunately we got for those who have iPad 2 especially iOS 5 users. Comex confirmed on his Twitter that JailbreakMe 3.0 will not jailbreak iPad 2 on iOS 5, rather it will only jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 till 4.3.3 on iPad 2.

• Previously, we confirmed that Comex has been working on making the iPad 2 jailbreak process faster through JailbreakMe 3.0. This new procedure will drastically reduce the time it takes for the jailbreak. Reportedly, JailbreakMe 3.0 will also work on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 3G, 4G, iPad 1 and of course, the iPad 2.

• Comex tweeted in reply to a question that JailbreakMe 3.0 will not be jailbreaking iOS 5, which is in beta 1 right now, on iPad 2. So those who are willing to jailbreak iPad 2 and have upgraded to iOS 5 beta 1, it is recommended that you downgrade iPad 2 to iOS 4.3.3, in order to be able to run Cydia on iPad 2.

We’ve reviewed a few cases for iPad and iPad 2 here at The Gadgeteer.  We’ve also reviewed a few headrest mounts for the iPads.  The problem has been that you have to remove the cover to fit the iPad into the headrest mount.  Snugg offers a Headrest Mount Holder that is designed to be used with their iPad 2 Case Cover and Flip Stand.  Let’s give them a closer look.

iPad 2 Case Cover and Flip Stand

This book-style cover for the iPad 2 is made of black polyurethane faux leather with white contrast stitching.  The front and back are stiffened for extra protection for the iPad 2 and for better support when used as a stand.  The interior of the cover is lined with a black velvety fabric to prevent scratches to the iPad 2’s body.

The iPad 2 is held in the case in a frame made of the faux leather.  Cutouts leave the front-facing camera and the home button accessible.  You slide the iPad 2 into the frame from the left side, then secure it with a wide Velcro strap.  There’s no way the iPad 2 can fall out of this case.

The case is 9.5” long X 7.5” wide X 0.75” thick.  It weighs 9.4 ounces on my digital scale.  It does add considerable bulk to the svelte iPad 2.

The front of the case bears the Snugg name – the only branding on this case.  There’s also a crease near the spine that allows the front cover to fold into a stand.  The back has a cutout for the back camera and three holes for the speaker.  There’s a flap sewn onto the back that anchors the front cover when it’s folded back to form the stand.

The inside of the front cover has an elastic hand strap.  Slide your hand under this strap to secure your grip while you’re holding or carrying your iPad 2.

Two magnets inside the front cover and two on the right side of the frame hold the front cover closed.  There’s also a magnet that triggers the iPad 2’s automatic wake/sleep function.  I like this function, and I’m glad the Snugg cover allows me to use it.

The sides of the case are cut to allow access to the buttons and connectors.  The stiff back of the case extends a bit beyond the edges of the iPad 2, and this, combined with the frame on the front of the iPad 2, makes it a bit difficult to use the controls.  I was afraid the sound would be completely muffled in this cover, but that’s not the case.  It seems that the hard back bounces the sound toward the front.

Other than the tight access to the controls, the Snugg cover works well as a book-style case.  I did notice that the frame covers the bezel and comes right up to the edge of the touchscreen area.  That might make it difficult to tap at the extreme edges of the touchscreen; it may also interfere when you’re trying to move icons from one screen to another.

The Snugg cover works very well as a stand for the iPad 2.  When you flip the front cover back and secure it under the flap on the back, it forms a very stable triangular stand.  You’ll be able to support the iPad 2 in the horizontal position for watching movies, FaceTime calls, or for when you’re using a Bluetooth keyboard.  Lay it down, and the Snugg supports the iPad 2 at a good angle for typing on the horizontal on-screen keyboard.

The Snugg iPad 2 Case Cover and Flip Stand is a sturdy book-style cover with some nice features.  The hand strap helps secure your grip, and the case works as a stable horizontal or typing stand.  The front and back covers are protective, but their stiffness, combined with the thin profile, make access to the controls a bit difficult.  It can be purchased at Amazon for $29.99.

Snugg iPad 2 Car Headrest Mount Holder

If you want to mount your iPad 2 in your car, you can purchase the iPad 2 Car Headrest Mount Holder.  It is also made with the black polyurethane faux leather with white contrast stitching.  It has a series of elastic bands that slide down over the headrest and two more straps that wrap around the headrest and buckle in place.  This is the only headrest mount I’ve tried that doesn’t require you to remove the headrest or need to be disassembled and reassembled around the headrest support.

You don’t need to remove the iPad 2 from its case to use it with the headrest mount.  You simply slide the front cover under an elastic band on the front of the holder.  Two small, U-shaped plastic clips at the bottom of the headrest mount  grip the front cover and hold it in place.

The iPad 2 is held directly in front of the backseat passenger.  The iPad cannot be tilted or angled to adjust the view for the passenger, nor can it be moved between the seats so multiple passengers can use it.  It can be easily removed when not in use.  It doesn’t have any stiff arms that intrude into the passenger space.

The iPad 2 Car Headrest Mount Holder is easy to install and easy to remove.  Unlike many car-mounting systems, the iPad 2 doesn’t have to be case-less to fit.  It was designed to work with the Snugg cover.  It doesn’t allow you to adjust the angle for ease of viewing, though.  It can be purchased at Amazon for $25.99.

For who don't know JailbreakMe, it's the simplest jailbreak tool ever, that allows iOS device users to jailbreak thier devices via Safari, all you have to do is "Slide to Jailbreak". It's not clear if JailbreakMe 3.0 will be able to jailbreak both iOS 4.3.3 and iOS 5.0 or it will be only limited to iOS 4.3.3. Also there's no estimate to arrival but it's look very imminent. Apple changing conditions Subscriptions

Unexpectedly, Apple introduces the conditions for subscriptions in applications for IOS. The old rules were not to the liking of newspaper publishers.

Apple continues to thirty percent of the income requirements, but the subscription in an application for IOS (thus the iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone) no longer as cheap or cheaper than external subscriptions.

Looks like every company that has something to do with electronics want to produce a tablet. This time its VewSonic with its ViewPad 7x ahead of the pack. They are the first ones to produce a 7-inch tablet running Android Honeycomb. The new tablet features a 1024 x 600 resolution screen which is not bad for a 7-inch screen.

It is officially equipped with Google Android 3.0.1 OS and features HSPA+ connectivity and HDMI output. It also has not one but two cameras, one in front and one on the back side. It is powered by a Tegra 2 processor, which is a dual-core of course. However, there is no information on release date and we are all waiting for it.
