Lessons from The Blizzard of 2011

I don't know about the rest of you, but here in Kansas City we were smack dab in the middle of one of the biggest snow storms to hit the Midwest in at least 10 years.

This one was one of the first big storms that we've had here since the proliferation of broadband. Don't get me wrong, we've had some pretty good snows, but nothing this bad as far as I can remember.

Anyway, here are a few things I learned from technology and blizzards:

-Charge your devices! You never know when power loss is coming.
-Get a Bluetooth headset! Watching people drive in the snow with a phone shoved between their skull & shoulder is painful AND scary.
-Utilize Twitter. Lots of local municipalities are now offering all kinds of cool updates.
-Print your schedule! We had to cancel Wednesday & we did it all (gasp) from paper copies the admin team took home.
-Buy some chemical glove heaters. Those little pads you stick in your gloves dan help keep your fingers warmer longer. Trust me on that one.
-Make sure your snowblower runs before the blizzard hits. Watching people try to start a dead machine is just sad.

So just a few suggestions to help make storm survival & organization easier. Anyone care to add to the list? I'm pretty sure I've just scratched the surface. Hey, there may be a DPR article in here somewhere...
