The Daily - iPad App with an Old Media Twist

The Daily.jpg

For years the world has been sort of waiting for the death of the "old media".  Lots of people have said that newspapers won't survive in the electronic age, that magazines are  yesterday, etc.  Some of that is true.  Newspaper circulation are down and magazines don't hold quite the same fascination for some as they once did.

So it's interesting that today there was a huge fanfare over the release of "The Daily" a daily (as the name indicates) news paper/magazine app for the iPad.  It has been developed by Rupert Murdoch who owns about as much of the "old media" as a single human being can.  It promises "true news discovery" and will be published 365 days a year.

It's a fairly cool idea with the ability to update dynamically throughout the day and pull in things like Twitter feeds etc.  The app is .99 per week or reasonably priced at $39.99 for one year.  While it may not save traditional media types, this does seem fairly intriguing to me.  I've already downloaded the app and reviewed the first days worth of material which seemed like a very nice newsmagazine to me.  I think I'm going to go ahead and pop for the full subscription.  Anyone else interested?
