New Randall RT Series reviewed in Guitarist

"A pair of good options for hard rock and metal players"

The new Randall RT Series is an extremely flexible and affordable, all tube group of 50 and 100 watt guitar amplifiers. These amps excel at classic hard rock and modern metal tones while looking exceedingly cool on stage with their inner blue glow. Guitarist magazine this month review the Randall RT50C 1x12 combo and RT100H head.

"Overall, both amps give a pretty good impression at this price point; they're robust and neatly finished, and should handle regular pub and club gigging without any issues".

"Both amps fire into life without undue hum and hiss; the clean channel has a nice Fender-inspired warmth at lower gain settings and pushes into a mild overdrive as you turn the gain control up".

"The overdrive channel delivers a thick, creamy distortion with a quite distinct edge that sounds good for hard rock and metal..."

"Definitely aimed at the modern rock and metal end of the market, both the combo and head should prove ideal for players after a decent quality valve amp at an affordable price".

If you want to get that modern USA metal sound, the Randall RT Series is definitely worth a try".

To read the full review, pick up the March 2011 Issue (Issue 339) of Guitarist magazine on sale now. The Randall RT50C and RT100H are available now at £670 and £835 RRP respectively.

Randall announces RG8040 solid-state combo, an homage to original RG80

Randall proudly debuts the 40th anniversary RG8040 combo amplifier, a groundbreaking homage to the ‘Randall Sound’. Based on the historic RG80, the Randall amp that helped define and establish a legacy of killer tone and brutal volume, this 75 watt solid state amp is reliable, affordable and most importantly, great sounding. Like the RG80, it is a 1x12 combo that is small in size but big in volume!

The heart of the RG80 is the FET based preamp. This classic, and often mimicked, Randall circuit sounds unlike any other solid-state amp in that it reacts with your guitar in a similar sonic characteristic as does a tube, thus creating a unique dynamic that has the depth and tonal complexity that flat-sounding modeling amps cannot achieve. The other key component is the new 100w “DIAVLO” Speaker. This high-powered proprietary speaker was specially voiced for the RG8040 to handle high volume in a small cabinet and break up nice when pushed.

The RG8040 is equipped with a clean channel with Gain, Bright switch, overdrive boost and volume, a distortion channel with separate volume and enough gain that only the brave will engage the ‘secret’ boost function. A global 3 Band EQ with presence control, bass boost and Midrange scoop lets one carve out any tonal option. Many very practical features also complement the amp including XLR Direct out with Ground Lift, Effect loop, Stereo Media input, headphone output and foot-switchable channels, boost and reverb. Attach any extension cabinet, such as the DIAVLO RD112 to turn this combo amp into an impressive stack.

The RG8040 anniversary combo amplifier will be available in Q2 2011 priced at just £249 RRP inc VAT.

Randall introduces all-tube Diavlo Series

Randall proudly announces the release of its new, all-tube Diavlo Series. Available in a 50-watt combo (RD50C), 50-watt head (RD50H), and 12” extension cabinet (RD112), the Diavlo Series is sure to satisfy even the most critical player’s tonal needs.

From chiming cleans to intense leads, the Diavlo Series amplifiers delivers almost any tone. For example, in the clean channel players can achieve a crisp sound perfect for rhythm playing. But, put the amp into the overdrive channel and listen to these 50-watt amps scream. Unlike many amplifiers, the Diavlo Series offers a boost function that works in both the clean and overdrive channels; the boost turns the clean channel into crunch and the overdrive channel into a roaring beast!

Aside from the two channels that offer incredible tonal diversity, the Diavlo Series has more secrets waiting to be discovered. An adjustable spring reverb knob on the back allows players to further enhance their tone. In addition, the series comes equipped with a 4-band EQ that includes treble, bass, middle, and presence. The power section comes equipped with EL34’s but will accommodate and pair of 6L6s, 6550s, 6CA7s, 5881s, KT88s, and more!

The RD112 closed back cab and RD50C combo come equipped with the new RD12508 ‘Diavlo’ Speaker. Specially voiced for the Diavlo Series, this speaker will break up nicely when pushed, but still hold together at high volumes.

The Randall Diablo series will ship in Q2 2011 priced at £499 RRP inc VAT for the RD50C combo, £399 RRP inc VAT for the RD50H head and £169 RRP inc VAT for the RD112 cab.

'Plug and Play': Guitar Buyer investigate the Randall MTS Series

Quickly becoming an industry standard, the Randall MTS Series is now the amp for the pro session player, gigging musician, studio engineer or producer, in fact anybody who wants to build their own amp with their own choice of clean, rhythm, and hi-gain tone for a complete custom set-up. Guitar Buyer Magazine this month includes a review of the RM50 combo in the brand new Black Palomino finish. Also under the spotlight are the Tweed, Top Boost, Treadplate and KH-2 modules with an in-dept test of the Blackface and XTC modules.

"Not only are we impressed by the genuine change in character that the various preamp modules bring with them, but the scale and quality of these sounds is also thoroughly convincing. Through the Randall, our test guitar – a Fender American Standard Telecaster with Bare Knuckle pickups – took on a new life. Everything sounds bigger and glistens with extra sparkle and presence".
