Dell Inspiron Mini 10.1 inch Obsidian Netbook Computer Review

A netbook little bit enjoyable with a decent price, but with a processor slower than the average.

Netbooks are not known for their high speed. The vast majority of netbooks uses a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, while he uses a slower version of 1.33 GHz.  Not a massive game changer, but is something that is already enough slow, even slower.

Rather than buzzing the processor speed, here's a breakdown of the main features.

10. 1? screen1024 x 600 maximum resolution1GB of memory160 GB hard driveWindows XPBuilt-in microphone, speakers and port3 x USB portsWiFi webcamLAN

It is therefore quite well the standard spread of features.

Overall, the experience with this computer few are good enough. But there was some trouble, which is why to avoid the hassle.

There is no included do Windows, so you do can not uninstall it then reinstall. Not everyone needs to do this, but if you do, you need to get a disc of recovery in some way. Note that a Windows 7 user does not if he tries to reports.

The HDMI port is for video only and does not support any audio. Typical HDMI supports audio, but most video computer outputs only the video stream, you need to the audio from the output of wireless microphone.

The other bits and pieces work as expected. WiFi works in places with good signal and the system offers the standard 802. 11 b / g, which is fast enough for what is to use the web.

There is all the functionality needed to video conferencing. Webcam to manage the video and the built-in microphone and speakers to handle the audio aspects.

The 8-hour battery life is average. There more expensive computers laptops "ultra low voltage" which can go 10 hours and many other netbooks which can also go for 10 hours. Eight is not either, but not so evil.

The good:

Battery decent lifeNice priceComplete set of features

The not so good:

Samsung N130-13B 10.1 inch slate blue Netbook review

The Samsung is an exceptionally solid netbook with good performance and is like a cheap kids toy. I've seen a few positive comments on this model, and it offers a good mix of style and performance. As with all netbooks it blows away other computers, but the price is right and the specifications balance sufficient to give a good experience.

Here are some of the key features:

2.8lbs10.1 po screen1024 x 600 memory160GB hard driveFast EthernetWireless 802 resolution1GB

The size of the screen is sufficient for a web browser, although it will be cramping of certain Web sites and they could be zoomed for optimal viewing.

The Intel Atom processor is the specification stock for netbooks from the day where it was introduced there are no surprises and no difference in real performance between it and other netbooks.

The keyboard, often a point difficult for those with large hands, is about 90% of the size of a standard keyboard and is large enough to use comfortably, although not to full weeks at computer work.

Outside of the netbook is sturdy and against scratches and abrasions.

1 GB of memory will handle most web navigation needs. This will allow two or three programs to be open at the same time. Firefox with tabs in 15-20, Tweetdeck and an instant messaging client will handle very well. Performs a both give much better results.

I am pleased that 802. .11n-ready wireless networking is included. Since netbooks are meant to be connected to the Internet primarily and almost everything online, a decent network connection is large enough. Accelerate the local connection, i.e. the connection, the computer to the Internet router wireless makes the experience much more homogeneous.

Other extras include audio input, output audio, integrated speakers, integrated webcam, built-in microphone, VGA port, and three USB ports.

I am not drooling over netbooks as I was once, but I think that it would be very high on my list if I counted on getting one. He hits well where it should and looks good at startup. The price of $300 is quite difficult to beat.

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK 10.1 inch black Netbook Review

Ah, the granddaddy of netbooks, Eee PC. ASUS has been the pioneer of this small form factor notebook. Fortunately, the first 7-inch screens had some improvements since then. This most recent 10-inch size, gives a little more to those who do not have teeny-weeny hands and do not want to wear a pair of binoculars to see the tiny text on the screen.

Apart the terrible unpronounceable name, almost, this computer provides a wide range of features, in a packaging which is small enough to slip around long anywhere and with a battery life enough to last for a whole day.

Here are some of the key features:

Intel Atom CPU1GB memory160GB drive10 hard inch screen 1024 x 768 resolutionBuilt-in webcam and microphoneLAN, lb Wifi and Bluetooth2.81

The style is good. If no childish expects this mini-performer. The screen provides enough size for a view of the Web page, although sometimes requiring from left to right scrolling. For desktop use, I recommend an additional monitor, because it is easier to consult. The VGA port will connect to almost any monitor, but some monitors are no longer have VGA ports, so check first.

1 GB of memory is just.

160 GB hard drive is very good, but I would prefer instead a small disk solid state. There is an extra 10 GB of online storage offered, but that sounds fanciful, I'd rather, they provided a subscription to one of the big online storage firms. I just don't know how much to trust their internal offer as Asus are a hardware company.

Networking is an essential element for netbooks which, by their name, are designed to be online. Fast Ethernet is the staple food of the Office, and Wi - Fi 802 Networks. .11n ready allows speeds faster wireless networks that support it. Bluetooth is also included and will connect to the Bluetooth microphones and stereo headphones.

The Asus Eee PC just can not really very wrong turn. The important part is that there is no missing important functionality. The netbook of Samsung blue is less expensive than this computer $ 50, but has less battery, this weight to what is most important to you.

Disadvantages:

Samsung N130-13B 10.1-Inch Slate Blue Netbook Review

The Samsung is an unusually solid netbook with good performance and doesn’t look like a cheap kids toy. I’ve seen quite a few positive comments on this model and it offers a good mix of styling and performance. As with all netbooks it won’t blow other computers away, but the price is right and the specifications balanced enough to give a good experience.

Here’s some of the main features:

2.8lbs10.1 inch screen1024 x 600 resolution1GB of memory160GB hard driveFast EthernetWireless 802.11b/g/n

The size of the screen is enough for a web browser, although it will be cramping some websites and they might need to be zoomed out for optimal viewing.

The Intel Atom processor is the stock specification for netbooks ever since it was first introduced so there are no surprises and no real performance differences between this and other netbooks.

The keyboard, often a tough point for those with larger hands, is about 90% the size of a standard keyboard and is big enough to use comfortably, albeit not for a full weeks work at the computer.

The outside of the netbook is robust and does well against scratches and abrasions.

1GB of memory will handle most web browsing needs. This will allow two or three programs to be open at the same time. Firefox with 15-20 tabs, Tweetdeck and an instant messaging client will handle just fine. Running one at a time will yield better results though.

I’m glad that 802.11n wireless networking is included. As netbooks are meant to be connected to the Internet mostly and do almost everything online, a decent network connection is pretty important. Speeding up the local connection, i.e. the wireless connection from the computer to the Internet router, makes the experience that much more seamless.

Other extras include audio input, audio output, built-in speakers, built-in webcam, built-in microphone, VGA port, and three USB ports.

I’m not drooling over netbooks as I once was, but I think this one would be high up on my list if I was planning on getting one. It hits does well where it needs to and looks good to boot. The $300 price is pretty tough to beat.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10.1-Inch Obsidian Netbook Computer Review

A nice little little netbook with a decent price, but with a slower-than-average processor.

Netbooks are not known for their great speed. The vast majority of netbooks use a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, whilst this one uses a slower 1.33GHz version.  Not a massive game changer, but does make something that is already pretty slow, even slower.

Rather than droning on about the speed of the processor, here is a breakdown of the major features.

10.1? screen1024 x 600 maximum resolution1GB of memory160 GB hard driveWindows XPBuilt-in microphone, speakers and webcamLAN port3 x USB portsWiFi

So there is pretty much the standard spread of features.

Overall, people’s experience with this little computer are pretty good. But there have been a few hassles, which should be noted to avoid any hassles.

There is no Windows CD included, so you cannot uninstall it then reinstall it. Not everyone needs to do this, but if you do you’ll have to get hold of a recovery disk somehow. Note that one user reports Windows 7 not working if you are planning on trying it.

The HDMI port is for video only and does not support any audio. Typical HDMI supports audio, but most computer video outputs only output video, so you’ll have to wire the audio from the microphone output.

The other bits and pieces work as expected. Wifi works in locations with good signal, and the system offers the standard 802.11b/g which is fast enough for anything that involves using the web.

All the features needed for  video conferencing are there. The webcam to handle the video and the built-in microphone and speakers to handle the audio aspects.

The battery life of 8 hours is average. There are more expensive “ultra-low voltage” laptops that can go for 10 hours and a lot of other netbooks that can also go for 10 hours. Eight is not the most, but not bad either.

The good:

Decent battery lifeNice priceComplete set of features

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook Review

Ah, the granddaddy of netbooks, the Eee PC. Asus were the pioneer of this small form factor portable computer. Thankfully the 7inch screens from the first models have had a few upgrades since then. This newer 10 inch size, gives a little more to those who don’t have teeny-weeny hands and don’t want to wear binoculars to see tiny text on screen.

Apart from the awful, almost unpronounceable name, this computer provides a huge range of features, in a package that is small enough to drag around anywhere and with a battery life long enough to last for an entire day.

Here’s some of the main features:

Intel Atom CPU1GB memory160GB hard drive10 inch screen with 1024 x 768 resolutionBuilt-in webcam and microphoneLAN, Wifi and Bluetooth2.81 lbs

The styling is good. So no childish looks from this mini-performer. The screen provides enough size for webpage viewing, although sometimes requiring left to right scrolling. For desktop use I’d recommend an extra monitor as it’s easier to view. The VGA port will connect to almost any monitor, but some monitors no longer have VGA ports, so check first.

1GB of memory is just right.

160GB hard drive is fine, but I’d prefer a smaller solid state drive instead. There is an extra 10GB of online storage offered, but this strikes me as gimmicky, I would much rather they provided a subscription to one of the big online storage firms. I just don’t know how much to trust their in-house offering as Asus are a hardware company.

Networking is a critical component for netbooks that, by their very name, are designed to be online. Fast Ethernet is the staple of office networks, and Wifi 802.11n allows faster wireless speeds on networks that support it. Bluetooth is also included and will connect to Bluetooth microphones and stereo headphones.

The Asus Eee PC just can’t really go very wrong. The important part is that there are no important features missing. The blue Samsung netbook is $50 cheaper than this computer, but has less battery life, so weight up what is most important to you.
