Foxconn reopens its facilities of polishing, Chengdu

Foxconn has reopened all workshops, polishing, other than in Chengdu in China, which has been closed after that an explosion he may 20 killed three people, the company said.

After the explosion traced to Chengdu plant polishing workshop, Foxconn closes its polishing workshops other plants for a review of all security policies and procedures in the workshops.

The investigation into the explosion of the facility in Chengdu is underway, Foxconn Technology Group said Thursday. He did not give a date for the reopening of the facility which makes iPad Apple 2.

Foxconn has another facility in Shenzhen, which in fact most of the iPads, but some analysts have raised doubts whether the plant in Shenzhen can compensate the interruption of the production in Chengdu.

In may, research firm IHS iSuppli said that if the Chengdu plant production is interrupted until the end of June, it could result in a loss of production of about 500,000 units of the iPad 2 in the second quarter.

Foxconn said Thursday that while the investigation into the explosion of Chengdu continues, he considered the preliminary conclusions that the accident is probably due to an explosion of dust of aluminum in a ventilation duct. The company said it had implemented improvements in the breakdown of the workshop, reorganized its policies and practices relating to the Elimination of dust and apply new technologies that will help strengthen security in these workshops.

The survey should identify any other areas where improvements could be made, Foxconn will be pleased to immediately implement these measures, it added.

While most iPad 2 production takes place at the Foxconn Shenzhen plant, that plant may be not able to compensate for the loss of production in the second quarter, the site of Chengdu, says iSuppli.

Research firm predicted that 7.4 million iPad 2 units will be shipped through the canal during this period. The factory in Shenzhen, with a production capacity of 7.5 million units, may not be able to meet all the requirements of production, he will have to produce 7.8 to 8.1 million units to meet the gap between the production of the plant and the shipping of the products in the channel, Rhoda Alexander, said an analyst at iSuppli. Step of all manufactured units make it through the final inspection, for example, Alexander added.

However, analyst Amy Teng Gartner said that she had not planned a significant impact of the explosion of Chengdu on iPad shipments. Chengdu plant had just started to manufacture the iPads, and most of the production of iPads is still done in the other factories in China, she added.
