He writes, "Quetzalcoatlus is a Pterosaur, and so far as we know, the largest animal known to have flown. Once you start imagining something as tall as a giraffe with the wing span of a Cessna flying about it begins to boggle the mind." He based it on Dr. Darren Naish's paper with Mark Witton that argued pterosaurs did not swoop down and snatch up prey but walked most of the time like colossal land-based storks.

Suiting MR16, 12V and 24V LED lamp design, the driver ensures a 5 percent average LED current accuracy for up to 9 high power LEDs over the wide operating voltage range, helping to significantly improve inter-lamp luminance matching.

Amazon First to Market with Cloud Storage of your Music Collection
For a while now techie types have been wondering who would be the first to offer cloud storage of your music collection. Apple, Google, and Amazon have all been rumored to be in the game. All of those companies currently offer some type of cloud storage, but just not the full on storage and access that music requires .
Well, this week Amazon made the first move. In an interesting gambit, Amazon will allow cloud storage & access to Blackberry, Palm, and Android devices, but not to any Apple devices. That's an interesting little tidbit.
The service provides 5GB of storage for free (that's about 1200 songs) and then offers more storage for a fee. The best part though is that you can access your music and play it on your device without it actually being on your device. This means that my new Motorola Xoom can have access to my entire 50GB music collection without having one song loaded on it. Cool huh?
When the service was announced, Amazon vice president of movies and music Bill Carr said: "Our customers have told us they don't want to download music to their work computers or phones because they find it hard to move music around to different devices." You know, that's true. As I get more and more devices, it's harder and harder to remember what I've loaded where. That's especially true for someone like me who has a music collection that is too large for all of my portable devices (except for my 60GB iPod).
I love the idea of being able to get my music anywhere I want it. In my opinion, that's the way it's supposed to be. The big music companies aren't too happy about that, but that's to be expected. At first the thought was that Amazon was trying to bypass them, but now come rumors that Amazon is actually in negotiation with the large music providers to get them on board with this.
Either way, the genie is out of the bottle & it's only a matter of time before this becomes the de facto standard.
The best part is that it will only get better as Google and Apple get involved.

Acer has officially confirmed pricing and availability for the Acer Iconia Touchbook, its dual-display 14-inch touchscreen notebook. The Windows 7 based twin-tablet will hit the US and Canada in April, priced at $1,199.99 US (or $1,199 CAD), packing an Intel Core i5 processor, USB 3.0, HDMI, WiFi b/g/n and a customized software suite.

ROHM silicon carbide schottky diodes push performance envelope
SAN DIEGO, USA: ROHM Semiconductor announced the availability of the SCS1xxAGC series of high-performance silicon carbide (SiC) Schottky barrier diodes (SBD).
This new class of SiC diodes offers industry-leading low forward voltage and fast recovery time, leading to improved power conversion efficiency in applications such as PFC/power supplies, solar panel inverters, uninterruptible power supplies, air conditioners and others.
The SCS1xxAGC series maintains low forward voltage over a wide operating temperature range which results in lower power dissipation under actual operating conditions. For example, the 10 A rated part has a VF of 1.5 V at 25 degrees C and 1.6 V at 150 degrees C. Low VF reduces conduction loss while the ultra-short reverse recovery time (15 ns, typical) enables high-speed switching and minimizes switching loss.
With the acquisition of SiCrystal AG, ROHM Semiconductor possesses total manufacturing capability for SiC semiconductors from ingot formation to power device fabrication. This allows the rapid development of advanced products and complete control of raw materials for industry leading reliability and quality.

The new AKU230—which represents Akustica’s 4th-generation MEMS microphone—is the company’s first product that leverages the extensive MEMS fabrication capabilities and global supply chain of Bosch, which acquired Akustica in 2009. Akustica chose to move production of their newest complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) MEMS microphone to the Bosch foundry in Reutlingen, Germany because of Bosch’s unparalleled MEMS manufacturing experience and the rigorous standards of quality that have allowed Bosch to ship more than 1.6 billion MEMS sensors worldwide.

AKG WMS 450 wireless available now on Channel 38
Sound Technology Ltd is pleased to announce that AKG’s WMS 450 wireless range is now available in the UK on frequencies covering Channel 38.
More flexible than a simple plug-and-play system yet easy to set up and operate, WMS 450 allows cost-efficient, high-performance scalable multi-channel solutions.
Transmitter options include the HT 450 handheld, with a choice of AKG’s D 5 dynamic or C 5 condenser capsules or the PT 450 pocket transmitter, with C 555 L headworn microphone, C 407 L lavalier microphone, or MKG L instrument cable.
Both transmitters have an LCD display which indicates all important system data at a glance, including the selected frequency, available battery time, low battery warning and the current transmission mode. Up to 8 hours operation is possible from a single AA battery. Charging contact allow the transmitters to be used with the optional CU 400 charging unit.
The true-diversity SR 450 transmitter features Auto Setup mode, where the receiver will scan the available bands, find an interference-free channel, and transmit the related frequency data to the assigned transmitter via infrared. This function significantly reduces the time it takes to set up a multichannel system. A Rehearsal function is provided for identifying RF dead-spots.
The back-lit display clearly indicates all important system parameters, warning the user of critical conditions from a distance including audio clipping, RF and battery status.
WMS 450 is compatible with AKG’s range of antennas, antenna splitters and power supplies.
Channel 38 (606-614 MHz) is the dedicated replacement for channel 69 (854-862 MHz) and, along with frequencies in channels 39 and 40, is currently available on a shared licence basis for PMSE (programme-making and special events) use across the UK. Channel 69 will not be available for PMSE use after 2012.
